Information about newspapers
Kroch Library has hundreds of newspapers from Southeast Asian countries. Many are on microfilm, and a few cover as far back as the late 1800's. (Asia microfilms are located in the Library Annex). Look up a newspaper by title in the library catalog to see the holdings and use the request button.
Some older newspapers and current issues of popular newspapers are available through various web sites (see below).
Older Newspapers
- Southeast Asian Newspapers [Center for Research Libraries collection]Covers 125 publications in Dutch, English, French, Javanese, Spanish & Vietnamese. It incorporates a wealth of coverage and perspectives on major regional and global events of the late 19th and 20th centuries. The home page has interesting random selection of papers with news for "on this date in history."
- NewspaperArchiveUse Countries browse option to select Indonesia (the only Southeast Asian country available). Choose state, then city; use scroll bar at bottom to expand window to see titles and holdings.
- Access World News -- (retro to current)[NewsBank] Includes 9 SEA countries. The number by each country indicates number of sources, which consist of newspapers and wire services. Each source covers a different span of retrospective years, some to current day.
