Web of Science

To find journal articles in the field of physics the best search engine is the Web Of Science, which contains references going back to the year 1900.

  • To search by author name: perform a 'name' search under the tab 'researchers'. To find papers by Albert Einstein, search for last name Einstein and initial A. Then pick the correct A. Einstein from the list of 8+ authors.
  • To search by keyword, choose the 'documents' tab and pick 'topic' from the pull-down menu. Enter your keyword. For instance 'thermonuclear' or 'robot*'
  • To search by key phrase, choose 'title' from the pull-down menu under the tab 'documents'. Enter your key phrase. For instance: *"fire and ice*" to find any appearances of this phrase embedded within a title.

Once the search results are returned, they can be further refined by using any of the criteria listed in the left sidebar.

The search results can also be reordered. For instance: you can sort by reverse date, or by 'times cited' (citation count).
