Add to your ORCID Profile

There are three ways to add works to your ORCID record:

  1. Link your works from another system (recommended)
  2. Import a BibTeX file of your works
  3. Enter works manually (least preferred)

  1. Link your works from another system
    • To link works from another system, choose Search & link from the Add works menu in the works portion of your record:

Select a system from the list (CrossRef is a good general source, others will depend on your discipline). You'll be asked to authorize the system, and will then be able to identify works in that system that are yours and that you would like transferred to your record. Each system behaves a little differently, and there may be a couple of intermediate steps not described here. For more information, see Add works by direct import from other systems in the ORCID Knowledge Base.

  2. Import BibTeX file of your works
  3. Enter works manually
    • Manually To manually type in information about your works, choose Add manually from the Add works menu in the works portion of your record, and complete the form to describe a work. For more information, see Add works manually in the ORCID Knowledge Base.

To add other kinds of information to your ORCID record, see Get more out of your ORCID iD.

Manage the Visibility and Privacy of your ORCID Profile

You may control how much of your ORCID record is publicly visible. For both your personal information and information about your privacy settingsworks, three settings are available:

  • Public or Everyone: information is available via the ORCID API and visible to visitors to the ORCID website.
  • Trusted parties: information is visible only to individuals and organizations you authorize.
  • Private: information is visible only to you.

For more information, see Visibility Settings in the ORCID Knowledge Base, and ORCID's privacy policy

Suggestions for Improving Your ORCID Profile

  1. Update your ORCID profile using your Cornell University login: You can access and modify your ORCID profile using your CU login, eliminating the need to remember your ORCID credentials. On the ORCID sign-in page, select “Institutional account” and enter your CU login when prompted.

  2. Set your ORCID profile to public: Enhance the visibility of your research and increase integration possibilities with other systems by making your ORCID profile public.

  3. Add name variations into your ORCID profile: If you’ve published under different names, ensure these are included in your ORCID profile.

  4. Share and use your ORCID ID: When submitting manuscripts and grant proposals, remember to provide your ORCID ID.

  5. Link your ORCID ID: Connect your ORCID ID with other services such as ResearcherID, figshare, and professional organizations.

  6. Publicize your ORCID ID: Consider displaying your ORCID ID on platforms like posters, webpages, email signatures, blogs, and social media accounts, or anywhere you’d like to direct others to your research work.
