Creating Notifications in GOBI

Notifications are predefined, scheduled searches that automatically run every Saturday. They are designed to deliver a list of new titles directly to your email and/or GOBI account.  Follow the instructions below to create your custom notifications in GOBI.

Log into GOBI with your CU email address and GOBI password.

Click Notifications on the top menu

Then choose Manage Notifications

From Center top menu, choose "Add" to create a new Notification.

First we'll look at the top half of the Notification Parameters

The next set of options include:

Classification

  • This allows you to receive alerts for titles that match specific LC classification scheme criteria. You may include broad classifications or very specific ranges.
  • WARNING: Be very careful to match the formatting provided in the example.  GOBI is picky with the punctuation and the spaces.
    • Here's the example from GOBI: Q236;QE-QH;QC100-QC120
      • semi-colon acts as an OR
      • no spaces between classifications
  • We have saved the former Oasis profiles, which include the LC classification ranges.  Contact Fred or Suzanne if you would like to see an old Oasis subject profile.

Interdisciplinary Criteria

  • When a title is profiled, Interdisciplinary Topics are assigned. They are unique to GOBI records.
    • To select one or more, click on the interdisciplinary topic name.
    • Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard to select more than one. (Holding the Ctrl key and clicking a name already highlighted will de-select it).
    • Not choosing a topic will include all the topics in your search results.
  • If you select more than one interdisciplinary topic, you can combine them with AND or OR.
    • Matches any - Combines selected interdisciplinary topics with OR to include in results.
    • Matches all - Combines selected interdisciplinary topics with AND to include in results.
    • Does not match any - Combines selected interdisciplinary topics with OR to exclude in results.
    • Does not match all - Combines selected interdisciplinary topics with AND to exclude in results.

Content Level

  • When a title is profiled, a Content Level is assigned. They are unique to GOBI records. You can choose one or more Content Levels to include in your results. Not choosing a content level will include all the content levels in your search results.

Formats

Geographic Descriptors

  • When a title is profiled, a Geographic Focus is assigned. They are unique to GOBI records.
    • Click the small arrow to expand the selections and see all the options within each section.
    • Clicking the top option will select all the options underneath it.
    • Not choosing a geographic descriptor will include all the choices in your search results.
  • If you select more than one geographic descriptor, you can combine them with AND or OR.
    • Matches any - Combines selected interdisciplinary topics with OR to include in results.
    • Matches all - Combines selected interdisciplinary topics with AND to include in results.
    • Does not match any - Combines selected interdisciplinary topics with OR to exclude in results.
    • Does not match all - Combines selected interdisciplinary topics with AND to exclude in results.

Imprints to Exclude

  • If there are approval publisher imprints you wish to exclude from your search results, type the name of the imprint in the "Enter text to search for imprints" box.
    • Click the appropriate imprint from the list that appears.
    • Click the Down Arrow to move it into the Excluded Imprints box.

 

Toward the bottom, you can customize your Notification setting details:

  • Notification Status
    • For a notification to run, it must be set to Active
    • To save the notification, but prevent it from running, select Inactive. Inactive is useful for when a recipient takes an extended vacation or holiday, or goes on sabbatical.
    • When Inactive is selected, no notification results are generated.
  • Notification Delivery Frequency
    • Choose to receive the notification weekly, every two weeks, every three weeks or every four weeks.
    • The first notification result is always generated the Saturday after Save and Schedule is clicked. After that your Delivery Frequency will determine when the next file is generated.
  • Delivery Format
    • Email with link -- GOBI users may choose to access their notification view via an email containing a link into the results in GOBI. A notification user may receive an email with a link to an interactive list outside of GOBI.
    • HTML, PDF, Tab Delimited - The recipient will receive an email with the results in an attachment. GOBI users receiving results in an attachment will not be able to view the results in GOBI.
    • No email alert - GOBI users may choose to view their notification results in GOBI without an email reminder.
  • Preview a Custom Interval
    • Use this to estimate how many results a notification will retrieve, you can preview the results of your notification, as though it already ran in the past.

VERY IMPORTANT!: 

Don't forget to Save and Schedule your Notification!!
