Creating Lists of Companies
These are some of the core resources that will let you create a list of companies that match criteria you specify (such as where they are located, their indusries, size, etc.). Some resources are most useful for locating for-profit companies, while others are better for locating nonprofits and foundations, so be sure to select the database that's most relevant to your interests.
- Capital IQA unique platform including detailed information on private and public companies in the US and worldwide. Use the Screening tool to locate companies that meet specific criteria like location, industry, or revenue. First-time users click here to sign up for an account using your Cornell email address. After your account has been approved, click here to access the database.
- OrbisProvides access to company information and financial data for more than 275 million companies worldwide. Users can screen for companies based on geography, financial performance, industry, deals, ownership structure, number of employees, year of incorporation, and other criteria. Orbis is an excellent source for private company information, especially in international markets.
- UniworldThe authoritative source of information on multinational firms operating around the world. U.S. companies listed have a substantial investment in overseas operations--wholly or partially owned; subsidiary, affiliate, or branch. Non U.S. companies (foreign firms) listed have substantial investment within the United States. Databases may be searched by country, region, state, keyword, zip code or postal code, industry code, revenue and number of employees. Search results can be viewed in HTML and printed, or downloaded into Microsoft Excel.
- Leadership ConnectLeadership Connect, formerly Leadership Directories, provides contact information for the leaders of major United States government, business, professional, and nonprofit organizations.
- GuideStar PremiumSearchable directory that provides detailed information on more than 850,000 nonprofit (501) organizations. Profiles cover mission and programs, financials, leaders, and most importantly, full text via PDF of the charity's IRS 990 filing from 1998 forward in most cases. Form 990 provides information on revenues, expenses, programs, activities, executive salaries and board members. Parts of the database are only available to licensed institutions, but the site contains significant free content. Access to some free content requires registration

Reputable publications like Barron's and Corporate Knight publish lists of the top sustainable companies annually.
- Barron's Most Sustainable Companies list: Search Sustainable companies to locate the most recent version of Barron's list. Published annually in February, this list highlights the most sustainable companies among the 1,000 largest publicly traded firms.
- Corporate Knights' Global 100: Published annually in January, this list highlights the world's most sustainable companies among all publicly-traded companies with $1b+ in revenue.
