How to: Research Consumer Markets: New Products

Examine how competitor's products are packaged, promoted, and what groups they target.

Mintel's GNPD (Global New Products Database) looks at thousands of new consumer products around the world. It allows you to search and analyse trends in packaging, claims, ingredients, and more. 

Register with your Cornell email address to create an account. Individual accounts allow you to save your searches and analysis. 

Of course you will also want to take a look your competitors's website, press releases, and annual reports to see what approach they are taking to the market.

Mintel GNPD

Example: Find profiles of pet products that focus on dog food released in North America using Mintel GNPD:


How To:

1. Under the Search option in the top menubar, select Advanced Search

2. Expand the Limit Results Category and select Pet Products

3. In the dropdown menu for Date Published, select Last Three Complete Years

4. In the Limit Results by Country/Region, click show expanded search. Scroll down and check the box next to North America.


Note: You can create a variety of tables and charts using the Analysis options.
