BorrowDirect -- Books

  1. If the library doesn't have a title you're looking for, you can use BorrowDirect to request it from another library in the BorrowDirect system.* Turnaround time is 3-5 days.
  2. If the library owns the title, but another patron has borrowed it (it's "checked out'), use the Request item button to request via BorrowDirect.*

*Note: If the item is not available from BorrowDirect, it will be re-directed to Interlibrary Loan. Turnaround time may be somewhat longer (1-2 weeks).

Interlibrary Loan - Articles, microfilm, and books not available via BorrowDirect

If the library doesn't have the journal that contains an article you are looking for, you can request a scan of the article via Interlibrary Loan.

From a library database, or from Google Scholar, check to see if we have the article by clicking the "Get it! Cornell" link. If you don't find the article, you can ask for assistance (sometimes the journal will be here, in hardcopy!), or submit a request.

In addition, if a book isn't available via BorrowDirect, the library will broaden the search to borrow through Interlibrary Loan.

Extending your search beyond Cornell

  • From the library catalog, follow the link to "Libraries Worldwide" (a.k.a. "Worldcat Local")
