Annotate
As there’s not enough time for a full literature review in this course, we’re going to do an abbreviated version of this called an annotated bibliography. Completion of this tutorial will prepare you for your final assignment.
Citing References in the Proper Format
Now that you have found four articles on your topic, it's time to construct your citations. You will need to gather the following information:
- Authors
- Year
- Article Title
- Journal Title
- Volume, Issue and Page Numbers
- DOI (digital object identifier: a type of permanent URL for articles) - optional if not present
EXAMPLE OF A JOURNAL ARTICLE CITATION in APA FORMAT:
Van Vugt, M., Hogan, R., & Kaiser, R. B. (2008). Leadership, followership, and evolution: Some lessons from the past. American Psychologist, 63(3), 182-196. doi: 10.1037/0003-66X.63.3.182
Citation styles in Wikipedia vary but when in doubt, you can use American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition style. There are guides for this on the library website. (For information about other citation styles and more help with citations, go to the Citation Management website.)
Why Citation Matters
Proper citation matters! Other people must be able to find the information you found. Also, citing sources properly is part of avoiding plagiarism and upholding the Cornell Code of Academic Integrity. If you don't know whether something needs to be cited or are concerned about accidental plagiarism, check out the tutorial Recognizing and Avoiding Plagiarism.
