The Animal Welfare Information Center (AWIC) is mandated by the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) to provide information for improved animal care and use in research, testing, and teaching.

Within the AVMA, issues related to animal welfare are considered by the Animal Welfare Committee with staff support from the Animal Welfare Division. This page provides links and information on animal welfare from the AVMA's perspective.

The Animal Welfare Information Center (AWIC) free online workshop teaches about the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) and how to meet its requirements for considering alternatives to painful and distressful procedures. This online workshop provides an environment where participants can learn about the history of animal welfare law, the 3Rs, and how to conduct a literature search for alternatives.
