5017 Frances Perkins Correspondence and Memorabilia, 1959-1964

Letters from Frances Perkins to Frances White. The collection also includes a sheet of U.S. postage stamps commemorating Ms. Perkins, and newspaper clippings concerning her life, career, and death.

5812 Interviews about Frances Perkins, 1965-1966

Interviews about Perkins by James R. Anderson, with Department of Labor staff Isador Lubin, James E. Dodson, Gerard Reilly and Clara Beyer.

Correspondence Collections

3007 Maurice Neufeld Papers, 1903-1994

Literary manuscripts, correspondence, class materials, subject files, case files, bibliographies, news releases, and newspaper clippings covering Neufeld's career as labor historian, consultant, and arbitrator.

Box 57, Folders 28 and 29 contain correspondence relating to the Perkins tribute and a draft of the tribute manuscript.

Box 27, Folders 20 & 21 contains correspondence including a greeting card from Perkins.

Box 142, Folder 6 contains a tribute program to Frances Perkins after her death and an Industrial Bulletin from February 1964 that feature Perkins on the cover and talks about her life and accomplishments.

Box 1 Folders 5, 6, 27, 29, 33, 35, 37, 38, and 39, Box 2, Folder 18, Box 3, Folder 5, and Box 4, Folder 3 contain correspondence relating to her time in office as Secretary of Labor. 

5065m Frances Perkins Letter to Donald Stetson, 1948

This collection includes a letter from Frances Perkins to Donald Stetson, dated January 16, 1948. Also included are letters relating to the donation of the letter to the Labor-Management Documentation Center in 1979.

Box 1, Folder 11 contains correspondence to and from Frances Perkins. 

5221 Max Meyer Papers, 1925-1979

Papers documenting Meyer's work as Chairman of the NRA, Millinery Code Authority and later Chairman of the Millinery Stabilization Commission, as well as other aspects of his career (as banker, arbitrator, and community leader).

Box 1, Folders 7 and 15 include correspondence from Perkins (10/3/1938) in the form of a recommendation for employment of an acquaintance and correspondence between Perkins and Meyer.

Box 8, Folder 25 contains correspondence arranging appointments with Frances Perkins, Eleanor Roosevelt and others.

Box 9, Folder 18 contains letters from Frances Perkins, Eleanor Roosevelt, Herbert Lehman and many other notable individuals.

Box 12, Folder 23 contains correspondence and a program from a special performance Parsifal to benefit the Summer Schools for Women in Industry at Barnard and Bryn Mawr Colleges.

Correspondence, poetry, manuscripts, transcripts and papers collected and written by Edwin S. Smith.

Box 1, Folder 1 contains correspondence with Franklin Delano Roosevelt (as Governor of NYS and President), personal letter to "Dunny..." discussing Freud's "Beyond the Pleasure Principle" and "Group Psychology and the Analysis of the Edo"; and poetry from Henry S. Dennison. 

5001mf American Association for Labor Legislation Records

Records consist of correspondence, committee minutes, reports, financial records and research documents generated by staff members to facilitate legislative programs. These research materials deal with the following subjects: general labor law, general social insurance, health insurance, occupational safety, diseases and accidents, labor law administration, pensions and old age benefits, unemployment, wages, hours of work, working conditions, workers' compensation and unionism.

5616 Isaac Max Rubinow Papers, 1892-1945

The personal papers of Dr. Rubinow who was active in the movement for social security from a medical point of view. He was also an economist and served in that capacity with th U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistices, the American Medical Association, and several Jewish welfare societies, including Bnai B'rith. The collection is composed of his correspondence, some of his articles and manuscripts.

Box 3, Folder 9 contains correspondence regarding Perkins. 

Box 3, Folder 29-30 contains a letter to Rubinow about events in Washington that mentions Perkins, and another with disagreements with Perkins about insurance plans and conferences.

Box 7, Folder 35 contains correspondence with Perkins about unemployment insurance and invitations to conferences. 

Box 10, Folders 12-18 contains correspondence about Perkins' conference on labor legislation.

5676 International Fur and Leather Workers Union Records, 1913-1966

The records, 1913-1955, comprise General Executive Board minutes, administrative records, local union correspondence, and papers of union officers. Well documented are the union's organizing efforts, the internal struggles against corruption, and the radical activities of its members. Much material pertains to the effects of conservative pressures on its leaders - particularly Ben Gold - to renounce their radical persuasion.

Box 13, Folder 26 contains a letter to Perkins about the deportation of Dominick Sallitto and Vincent Ferrero.

5584 National Archives and Records Service Copies of Federal Documentation on Black Workers, 1916- 1943

These are facsimile documents gathered by Professors James Gross and Cletus Daniel for their esearch project on Black Workers. These records were selected from many others and in each case by no means represent the complete series held by the National Archives. Researchers wishing to pursue further study in a particular series are advised to obtain the relevant series number (such numbers are stamped on the back of each document) and refer to it when attempting to locate the series at NARS. Use of this collection is restricted to term paper references for Cornell undergraduates until otherwise specified.

Box 2, Folder 2 contains correspondence from Perkins while Secretary of Labor seeking an end to racial discrimination in building trades with negative results. 

Box 3, Folder 4 correspondence to NRA and Frances Perkins supporting uni-level wage plans for establishment of Emergency Advisory Councils.

Box 11, Folders 8 and 9 correspondence and pamphlets, including general office correspondence to Perkins and other officials in the Labor Department. Contains routine solicitation for information on Black employment and general information on Secretary of Labor and the Labor Department. Reports to Perkins on the Division of Black Labor and speeches. Includes correspondence on discrimination against Blacks in employment.

Box 1, Folder 25 correspondence to Perkins from Mrs. F.M. Chase ( a domestic servant) about the need for a code for domestic workers.

Box 1, Folder 32 correspondence about the research project, including a letter from Perkins to Wells supporting the project. 

Box 2, Folder 15 includes a letter from Perkins sending her regrets at not being able to attend a luncheon.

Box 1, Folder 18 correspondence with Perkins about establishing an Education Department within the Labor Department.
