This Guide

The purpose of this guide is to help users to identify, locate, and access Related image library resources, and online research tools related to Middle Eastern and North African moving-image visual media. For the purposes of Cornell Library's Middle East and Islamic Studies, the geographic areas covered include: Mauritania, Morocco and the Western Sahara, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, the Sudan, Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan. The guide serves as an introduction to resources available through Cornell University Library, as well as electronic resources available freely online.

Finding Videos in the Library Catalog. The Cornell Library collections include a variety of video materials in several formats (DVDs, VHS, streaming ... Search Tips).

Finding VIDEOTAPES AND VIDEODISKS (VHS, DVDs, VCDs)? some simple strategies

Looking for foreign language films? Just go to the "film and video" search page of the online catalog. Many DVDs come with "optional subtitles" in English (or French, etc.) Type for example the phrase "Arabic with English subtitles" in the "Search" box at the top of the page. Just substitute the language that you're looking for (Hebrew, Persian, Turkish, etc.)

The Cinema, the Middle East, and the Transnational Panel brings together leading curators, producers, filmmakers, and scholars from the Middle East and the US to explore the present state of Arab/Middle Eastern cinema, the emergence of transnational trends, and prospects for the future.  This conference brings together a transnational array of leading scholars to engage and develop conversations about key issues in the theory of transnational film/media while also reflecting on the academic field of transnational film/media studies itself.
