HIST 2207 Project Guide - Digital CoLab: GitHub Accounts

This guide is for the ASIAN 2278: East Asian Medical and Martial Arts.

How to Sign Up

Welcome to the guide to making a GitHub account! Like making lots of online accounts, it requires about three minutes and very little effort.

Wait, why are you making a GitHub account? It's because we're using an awesome free, open-source mapping platform called uMap to create the map for this project, and you'll need to log in using a third-party account. GitHub is useful for lots of other things, so we'll be using GitHub to log into uMap.

Make sense? If not, feel free to email Kiran at kam535@cornell.edu. To make an account:

  1. Go to github.com.
  2. Click Sign Up .
  3. Enter your Cornell email.
  4. Create a password. It can be whatever, but try not to lose it.
  5. Create a username. This must be your Cornell NetID.
  6. Go to your email and find the launch code. Verify your account by entering the launch code.

Congratulations! You've created a GitHub account.
