The following government sites provide freely-available demographic information about the U.S. population.

Census Data
The primary platform for finding Census data. It includes data from the American Community Survey, 2010 Decennial Census, Economic Census, County Business Patterns and more.
American Community Survey
Conducted every month, the American Community Survey asks about topics not on the decennial Census, such as education, employment, internet access, and transportation
Consumer Expenditure Survey
Provides information on the buying habits of American consumers, including data on their expenditures, income, and consumer unit (families and single consumers) characteristics.
Bureau of Labor Statistics
Covers a broad range of labor and labor-related statistics including the American Time Use Survey and the monthly Current Population Survey of households in the United States
County Business Patterns
Published by the Census Bureau, provides data on establishments and employment for counties, larger municipalities, and zip codes.
Economic Census
Data on businesses by NAICS code, including employment, payroll, and revenues. Conducted every five years.
