Periodical Indexes
Most periodical indexes have evolved into article databases. However, these few are still useful for retrieving articles from historical journals.
- Trade Union Publications: The Official Journals, Convention Proceedings, and Constitutions of International Unions and Federations, 1850-1941 byVolume 1 contains a listing of trade unions and their publications. It also contains a brief chronology for the unions listed. Volumes 2 and 3 contain a subject listing to point to individual articles in trade union publications. The time period covered is 1850-1941.

Bibliographies
Bibliographies list research materials relevant to specific subjects. Start with a published bibliography and add to the sources listed with literature searches for books and articles that have been written since its publication date.

Arranged in dictionary form, this catalog is a reproduction of about 500,000 author/title and subject catalog cards, interfiled in alphabetical order. Since the publication of the catalog part of the library holdings have been dispersed among various institutions, but the catalog is still very useful as a reference tool, because it includes many less-known old books, pamphlets, and foreign language materials.
