Wikipedia Art + Feminism 2021 wants you! Become a Wikipedia editor, and get involved in this international effort to improve public knowledge, specifically, coverage of women and the arts on Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome—no matter your gender identity, and regardless of your experience with editing. Take one of our workshops or drop in on the help desk on March 8, 2021 to learn how to edit. You can contribute any time during the month of March in different ways: Write an entry, add a footnote, translate text, upload images, or look up information for others. You can also just cheer us on and get the buzz going on social media.

Unfamiliar with Wikipedia? We’ll walk you through. If you already have women artists, writers, or performers in mind (whether cis-, transgender, or non-binary), great! If you don’t, just pick from our list.

The big day is March 8, 2021, when we'll have an online help desk and virtual co-working opportunity, but you can contribute to the effort any time during the month of March.

We will offer Wikipedia editing workshops before the event, as well as same-day training on day of main event:

During these online workshops, we'll teach you how Wikipedia works and why getting involved in Wikipedia Art + Feminism 2021 matters. We’ll walk you through getting an account and give you an overview of the basics of editing in a hands-on editing session. You don’t have to be an expert to contribute! Get involved as a Wikipedia editor in this international effort to "improve coverage of women and the arts on Wikipedia."

  • Wikipedia Art + Feminism editing workshop: February 26, 2021, 4-5:30pm. Zoom workshop. Sign up here We will send you the Zoom link via email.
  • Wikipedia: Art + Feminism editing workshop: March 4, 2021, 12-1:30pm. Zoom workshop. Register here We will send you the Zoom link via email.

Join curators from the H. F. Johnson Museum and librarians as we explore research strategies for finding and using a range of open access and library resources on global artists underrepresented on Wikipedia. Geopolitics, internet connectivity, language, race, and ethnicity may all conspire with gender identity to exclude the presence of some and boost the visibility of others on Wikipedia. This workshop will familiarize participants with the wealth of library resources available at Cornell and provide an introduction to some of the types of Internet ephemera that contextualize contemporary art production beyond the U.S.

This workshop will prepare editors for the March 8 Art + Feminism Wikipedia edit-a-thon.
