- National Household Education Surveys: ArchivedCaptured by Internet Archive's Wayback tool. 1969-2019. Various surveys.
"The National Household Education Surveys Program (NHES) was developed by NCES to complement its school-based and institutional surveys (surveys of students, teachers, school administrators, and administrative records). Surveys that comprise the NHES are integral data collection tools for addressing topics that cannot be studied efficiently through institutional data collections. Those data collections provide a wealth of information but cannot tell us about learning that occurs outside of the formal education structure (such as homeschooling or early childhood education) or how families interact with and view the education system. By surveying households, the NHES allows NCES to generate a richer, more comprehensive view of American education." - State Education Reforms"This website, which draws primarily on elementary and secondary education data collected by organizations other than NCES, describing major developments in state-level education policies. [about] First based on the Overview and Inventory of State Education Reforms: 1990 to 2000, this site is updated periodically to incorporate new data.

It also provides measures of school segregation, which declined substantially in the 1970s nationwide but subsequently has had little change. Some additional information is provided about the test score performance of the schools that children attended. Within the same district the disparities between schools attended by white and minority children are often not large, but on a metropolitan level they are severe.
