CISER
The Cornell Institute for Social and Economic Research (CISER) is an excellent resource for help with the use of data files and statistical analysis software, and working with social science and economic data, both public access and restricted. CISER offers numerous workshops at Mann library on the use of statistical packages and computing. CISER also offers drop-in office hours both at their off-campus location on Pine Tree Road and at Mann Library. CISER is also the source of a large data archive available to Cornell researchers in the social sciences.

- American FactFinderA product of the US Census, American Factfinder provides Census data in user friendly format. This includes the American Community Survey (yearly population estimates between Census decennial periods), American Housing Surveys, Annual Economic Surveys, Decennial Census, Economic Census, County Business Patterns, and more.
- Statistical AbstractsThe Statistical Abstract of the United States, published since 1878, is the authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States. Sources of data include the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Bureau of Economic Analysis, and many other Federal agencies and private organizations.

- Agency for Healthcare Research and QualityGood clearinghouse on U.S. healthcare.
- Center for Health Workforce StudiesThe Center for Health Workforce Studies is a not-for-profit research organization whose mission is to provide timely, accurate data and conduct policy-relevant research about the health workforce.
- Health Insurance (U.S. Census)Find U.S. statistics on health insurance and health insurance availability.
- National Center for Health StatisticsThe National Center for Health Statistics' is the Nation’s principal health statistics agency run out of the CDC; they compile statistical information to guide actions and policies to improve the health of the Nation’s people.
- Statistics and Data, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)OSHA has statistics on workplace injury, illness and fatalities. It also provides establishment-level stats on inspections and investigations. The latter is a good place to find out whether an establishment is unionized. See the A to Z guide for statistics.
Economic Statistics
- The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is a division of the US Department of Labor whose primary purpose is to collect, analyze and disseminate data on economic conditions in the US, including labor market conditions, price changes and working conditions. The BLS Glossary provides definitions for the various types of data and statistics that you will encounter on this site.
- The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) promotes a better understanding of the U.S. economy by providing the most timely, relevant, and accurate economic accounts data in an objective and cost-effective manner.
- The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides data on housing, income, public housing and housing discrimination. Data sets can be found at www.huduser.org.
- The Administration for Children and Families is a division of the US Department of Health and Human Services. ACF promotes the economic and social well-being of families, children, individuals and communities.
