  • Betty works for the Finger Lakes Meat Packing Plant (FLMPP) in Ithaca, NY.
  • The FLMPP has 75 employees and has customers throughout PA, NY, and NJ.
  • Betty’s title is “Line Supervisor” and she works 3rd shift (12 am – 8 am). She works one of the processing lines alongside other workers.
  • As part of her job, she assigns workers to specific stations. She also is expected to write up disciplinary reports when other workers fall behind in their quota, leave early, or commit other infractions of their job expectations.
  • At 8 am, she submits any reports to the plant manager before leaving work. The plant manager then decides what, if any, disciplinary actions must be taken.
  • Local 111 of the National Meatpackers Union (NMU) undertakes an organizing campaign at the FLMPP.

Can Betty be included in a potential bargaining unit?
