About the Library - For Dyson Students: Services

Cornell Data Services

"Cornell Data Services is a collaborative, campus-wide organization that links Cornell University faculty, staff and students with data services to meet their research needs. Cornell Data Services’s broad range of disciplinary, policy, data, and information technology experts provide timely and professional assistance for the creation and implementation of data management and sharing plans, and help researchers find specialized data-related services they require at any stage of the research process, including initial exploration, data gathering, analysis and description, long term preservation and access."

Standard Printing & Scanning

While IT@Cornell manages CU Print, we do have printers that are connected to the CU Print system.  You are welcome to come to the information desk with basic troubleshooting questions for CU Print.

The color printers in Mann Library also double as scanners.  Any scans can be sent directly to your e-mail.

Evidence Synthesis

Cornell offers "...an evidence synthesis service to research staff, graduate students, and faculty in all departments on Cornell’s Ithaca campus. We support a range of review methodologies, including systematic reviews, scoping reviews, evidence gap maps, umbrella reviews, and others. Request an evidence synthesis consultation, or visit our resource guide to learn more.

We are committed to guiding and collaborating with investigators on the following:

  • Choosing the best review methodology to fit your timeline, question scope and discipline
  • Identifying relevant databases for searching the scholarly literature, including the gray literature
  • Designing and implementing complex, database-specific search strategies
  • Using citation management software for gathering studies
  • Using article screening and selection tools like Covidence
  • Understanding the research synthesis process and protocol development
  • Finding and evaluating evidence syntheses that have already been published"

Off-campus Access

The majority of Cornell's resources are accessible from off campus.  Access Anywhere is a tool that can quickly aid with off-campus access.

Please note, Access Anywhere is not required for off-campus access.

Instructional Support

The library can help you with instructional needs, particularly for projects or lessons designed around research.  This page explains our instruction program and some of the core areas of classroom instruction.

We can also put together guides (similar to this one) and help to design research based assignments.

Writing Support

Mann Library hosts the Knight Institute for Writing in the Disciplines and the Graduate Writing Service, both in the Consultation Area.

Citation Management

When conducting research, many researchers will find themselves with dozens, sometimes hundreds, of resources that they are trying to organize.  Citation Management tools are designed to help these researchers organize these resources and even to create bibliographies.  The primary citation management tools that we support are:

  • Zotero
  • Mendeley
  • Endnote

Here is a guide put together by Cornell University Library to help users to understand Citation Management.

We also offer periodic workshops and individual consultations on how to use these tools.

Poster Printing

Poster printing is one of the most popular and relatively unique services available at Mann Library.  This page highlights many of the specialty printing options that are available.

GIS Support

"Mann Library provides a variety of GIS support services for Cornell students, staff, and faculty. We can help you find and use data, troubleshoot GIS software (such as QGIS, ArcMap, or ArcGIS Pro), plan a geospatial analysis, or refer you to other GIS experts on campus. We also have information about GIS software availability and licensing, tutorials, workshops, academic courses, GIS listservs, and getting help at the Mann Library GIS Help Desk."

Here is a guide that emphasizes some of the sources and services that are available.

Publishing Support

We have a team that can assist if you're looking for options for scholarly publishing. Notably, if you're looking into potential funding for Open access publishing, we have a fund that may be able to help.

CSCU

The Cornell Statistical Consulting Unit (CSCU) "...is a research support unit whose mission is to support Cornell faculty, staff, and students with study design, data analysis, and the use of statistics in their research."

CSCU will have occasional office hours in Mann Library's Consultation Area.

CCSS

The Cornell Center for Social Sciences is a research support unit that helps with data and software.  If you need help using R, Stata, Python, or other statistical modeling platforms, this is the team that you want to work with.
