3D printing steps

You can print almost anything with a 3D printer and it's easier than you think! Follow these simple steps to bring your idea to life!

Step 1-3. The Model

Don't know anything about 3D models? No problem! You can find and download an existing model from an online repository like Thingiverse or YouMagine. You can also make your own with a computer-aided design program like Tinkercad or Autocad or use a 3D scanner.

Used to working in 2D? You can try creating 3D models in Photoshop or Illustrator. If you already have a 2D flat raster file (e.g. a file that ends in jpeg/jpg, png, gif), you can also try an online conversion program like Selva 3D to get an stl file to print or modify in Tinkercad or, if that doesn't work, convert to a vector file (e.g. a file that ends in svg or the like) and then change that into an STL. (Note: these files may require some modification.)

Bring your model in during our open hours or make a consultation. We'll get it ready for printing it in a slicing program like Simplify 3D, Cura or Slicer (this will let us know how long and how much plastic filament it will take).

Step 4. Print

We'll save the final model onto an SD card or USB and print it. It can take awhile! Plan accordingly and we'll usually email you when it's done.

Step 5. The Final Product
