What is a citation?

A citation is used to provide informaton when your materials has come from another source of information that is not your own. Citations provide support for your argument. A citation can take many forms due to the multiple styles of citing that exist in the research world.

Types of material cited can be (but are not limited to): journal articles, book chapters, blogs, proceedings, reports and so on.

A standard citation will tell you the title of the item, the article or chapter title (if there is one), date published, edition or volume information, and pages numbers.
