The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) provides many useful annual and special statistical reports including:
- Condition of EducationThe Condition of Education contains key indicators on all levels of education, labor force outcomes, and international comparisons. The indicators summarize important developments and trends using the latest statistics, which are updated throughout the year as new data become available. Spotlight indicators provide more in-depth analyses on selected topics. In addition, the more succinct Report on the Condition of Education, which highlights and synthesizes key findings from the Condition of Education, is also available in PDF format.
- Digest of Education StatisticsThe Digest of Education Statistics contains a set of tables covering the broad field of American education from prekindergarten through graduate school.
- High School Dropout & Completion Rates in the United StatesThe report draws on a wide array of surveys and administrative datasets to present statistics on high school dropout and completion rates at the state and national levels. The report includes estimates of the percentage of students who drop out in a given 12-month period (event dropout rates), the percentage of young people in a specified age range who are high school dropouts (status dropout rates), and the percentage of young people in a specified age range who hold high school credentials (status completion rates). In addition, the report includes data on the percentage of students who graduate with a regular diploma within four years of starting ninth grade (adjusted cohort graduation rates). This report updates a series of NCES reports on high school dropout and completion rates that began in 1988.
- Indicator of the MonthIssue briefs on key education topics including teacher salaries, employment of young adults by educational attainment, school enrollment and more.
- Projections of Education Statistics to 2030Projections of Education Statistics to 2030 is the 49th edition in a series begun in 1964. It includes statistics on elementary and secondary schools and degree-granting postsecondary institutions. This report provides revisions of projections shown in Projections of Education Statistics to 2028 and projections of enrollment, graduates, teachers, and expenditures to the year 2030.
- Report on Indicators of School Crime and Safety: 2023This annual report, produced with contributions from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), examines the current state of school crime and safety in the United States. It covers topics such as active shooter incidents, criminal victimization, bullying, safety and security measures, and criminal incidents at postsecondary institutions. The report presents data collected from students, teachers, principals, postsecondary institutions, and the general population from an array of sources, including NCES, BJS, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), among others.
