Introduction
This legal research guide looks at three kinds of laws relating to Native Americans (i.e., Indigenous peoples located in what is now the United States): (1) U.S. federal laws, including treaties with nations and tribes (Federal Indian Law); (2) tribal law adopted under the U.S. legal regime (Tribal Law); and (3) laws by which Native Americans governed themselves before colonization (Indigenous Law). It also includes resources to begin a legal research project on New York State's Indian Nations.
