Terms entered into the single search box on the Cornell University Library website yield a wide variety of resources including cataloged materials, articles, databases names, online journals, and library websites and repositories. To focus your search on finding print or online books or journal titles click on the ‘Catalog.’
This catalog contains the holdings of 19 Cornell University libraries (over 8 million items) including records for books, DVD's/videos, sound recordings, magazines/newspapers/journals, computer files, government documents, manuscripts and archives, maps, musical scores, and more.
You can refine your search with the facets under the "Limit your search" menu. The drop down menu to the right of the search box allows you to change what field you are searching. (Author, Title, Keyword, Subject.)
The Advanced Search offers multiple search fields and pull-down menus for more precision. In the example, below:
united states [phrase] [subject]
women [all] [all fields]
discrimination rights [any] [all fields]
- searches for the phrase "united states" in the subject field (these are pre-defined, Library of Congress subject headings),
- searches for the term "women" in all fields (anywhere in the library catalog record for an item),
- and searches for either "discrimination" OR "rights" in all fields (anywhere in the library catalog record for an item).
From the list of results, under the "Limit your search" menu, select "Request from Libraries Worldwide"
