How to get unlimited digital access to the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. plus links to other sources of current news.
Online databases bring together links to online news sources or provide searchable access to multiple news providers. In most cases, they provide the full text of the news sources, including some television and radio news programs.
Useful sources for current news, available online, funded by the library:
- Access World NewsCoverage and format: Current, from roughly the mid-1980s on (start dates vary widely). Over 7,000 newspapers and newswires, including some web-only titles. Mainly plain text and some video, but 100+ titles now available in color PDFs.
- Alt-PressWatch"Alt-PressWatch showcases unique, independent voices from many respected and cited grassroots newspapers, magazines, and journals." -- About Alt-PressWatch

- FactivaCoverage: Current. Back to 1980s for some titles. Primarily business news. Plain text. English. The News Pages section shows articles from eight major news sources (New York Times, Wall Street Journal, etc.) for the last two weeks. Articles in online versions may not be available here; articles that appeared in the print versions only. Access limited to 10 simultaneous users.
- Nexis UniCoverage: Roughly 1980 to date. Plain text, no graphics; transcripts only of audio and video. Numerous languages--mostly English and Western European. [formerly LexisNexis Academic]
- Library PressDisplayFull-color PDFs. Coverage: Last 90 days for most newspapers. Many languages.
- ProQuest Digitized NewspapersCoverage for all ten titles from 2008 to a few days ago, more or less. Primarily publisher PDFs backed by full text searching of publisher's text feed. More titles to be added in the future.
To choose specific titles in PDN for cross searching, go to any ProQuest database and click on the Change databases link at the top. Then click on the plus icon next to News and Newspapers databases. You will see all the PDN titles listed there. You can click on the checkbox for cross-title searching.
