Rankings & League Tables
Rankings & League Tables provide information on how a company ranks within an industry.
Thomson Reuters provides league tables quarterly. Investment Dealers' Digest provides year-end league tables in their "Underwriting and Banking Year-End Review" which is published annually in January.
To get rankings on Commercial Banks from Business & Company Resource Center:
- Access Business & Company Resource Center via the Management Library website.
- Click the icon for an Industry search.
- Enter 522110, the relevant NAICS code for Commercial Banks. Choose the NAICS radio button. Click the Search Codes button.
- Click the tab for Rankings.
- Choose the ranking list you would like to explore.
You can also customize league tables through Capital IQ's transaction screening function and Bloomberg's
Industry Information
What are the industry trends affecting your company? How do you analyze a company in a particular industry? What are the top industry associations? Use these resources to answer industry questions.
To find SIC or NAICS codes for an industry, see the Census website.

- Mergent Online Includes global industry reports.
- Thomson One Banker Provides full-text analyst reports on companies and industries. Works best in IE.
- CareerBeam Read CareerBeam's industry profile, listen to it online or download the 5-7 minute MP3 file and listen to your industry overview in the car. Make sure to check their "Call Preparation Questions" and "Conversation Starters" suggested for your space.
Finding an industry report
There are several library resources for industry reports. Market Insight contains detailed industry reports from Standard & Poor's and is fantastic for larger industries. For smaller industries or for international reports, try Business Source Complete. See the examples below:
To get a report on the pharmacuetical industry report in Market Insight
- Access Market Insight via the Management Library website.
- Click the Industry tab from the top menubar.
- Select Asset Management and Custody Banks from the Select a GICS Sub-Industry drop down menu. Click the Go! button.
- Click the link for Investment Services under the heading S&P Industry Surveys. The report will open in a new window.
To get a report on the investment banking industry from Business Source Premier:
- Access Business Source Complete via the Management Library website.
- Type investment banking in the search box.
- Scroll down to Publication type and choose Industry Profiles.
- Click the link for PDF Full Text of Global Investment Banking & Brokerage to access the Datamonitor report.
Use RSS!
Use RSS to track industry and company news.
You can have an RSS feed go directly into a reader like Google Reader, your email client like Outlook, or a mashup like Pageflakes.
How to Add a Feed
There are two ways you can add an RSS feed for the site you want to receive updates from to your RSS Reader.
- Most common: Copy feed URL and paste it into an "Add a subscription" field in your RSS Reader.
- Click the "Subscribe" link or the
button on the site you want to receive updates from and follow their directions.
