How to find the full-text of SAE citations
Retrieving the full text of Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) papers requires an extra step after you have obtained the citation (i.e. from the SAE Handbook or SAE Website or SAE Publications and Standards CD).
The precise location in the library to find SAE documents depends on the year of publication.
- 1908 - 1964 (missing part of 1924), see SAE Transactions, TL1 .S111 in the stacks
- 1947-1952, see SAE Quarterly Transactions, TL1. S112 in the stacks and SAE Transactions, TL8.S67 at the Library Annex
- 1964-2004, see series Microfiche 13 in the microfiche cabinets on the basement floor of the stacks
- 2005-present, search the SAE website to locate the document, then submit a request to engranswers@cornell.edu.
We will endeavour to get the publication as quickly as possible.
How to find the full-text of ASME citations
-
1946-2001 - under TJ1 .A5125 in Engineering Library and Library Annex. For verification, check Google or the journal Mechanical Engineering TJ1 .M48, which has a publications section listing ASME papers from 1978 through March 2002.
-
2002-onwards - issued as part of conference proceedings volumes, such as ASME International Mechanical Engineering Conference and Exposition. Use Google and Compendex to find publication numbers, search the library catalog for the conferences.
-
Another tool is Seventy-Seven Year Index: Technical Papers 1880-1956, Engr Reference TJ1 .A517. Also here is an index to 1957-1970.
-
Papers not held at Cornell may be requested through interlibrary loan.
